Project Gutenberg Distributed Proofreaders
Welcome to the Distributed Proofreaders walkthrough!
Welcome to the Distributed Proofreaders walkthrough!
Distributed Proofreaders is volunteering opportunity for Project Gutenberg. It's responsible for the digitized public domain books existing on Project Gutenberg.
Introduction here
Distributed Proofreaders (DP) rescues public domain/out-of-copyright (and frequently out-of-print) books and converts them to "electronic texts" that can be read by people on most computers or e-readers. To do that, we use a web-based method that divides the workload into individual pages so that many volunteers can work on a book at the same time. Some of our volunteers also "smooth read" full books before they are finally made available to everyone via Project Gutenberg.
The following pages allow you to preview what you will enounter when proofreading or smooth reading on our website. The green box at the left contains the guide to each page. Remember that you may need to scroll down the page to find the links mentioned in the guide. You can stop and come back later at any point.
Note: Most of the links on the Walkthrough's site preview pages (other than those specifically used as part of the Walkthrough) are disabled. To make the active links easier to find, we have highlighted them in yellow. Yellow highlighting is not used on the live Distributed Proofreaders site.
